One of the Mesa stakes held a Wilderness MTC with all their laurels and priests in their stake. Pres. Robinson, Sisters Manarangi, Cahoon, West and Elders Bean & Jenkins all went up to the mountains to talk about what it is like to serve a mission. The trip up was a little scary since the road was on the side of a mountain and very, very bumpy. But the youth loved interacting with these fine missionaries and listening to their testimonies of Christ. Beautiful day to be up in the mountains too.
We received 7 fine new missionaries on a beautiful day in April. We told them they arrived on one of the most perfect weather days ever.
After a lunch and then orientation the new missionaries met their companions. Always exciting and nervous at the same time. Then we ended the day with dinner and then off to their assigned areas of labor. Another successful transfer!
On P-days, the missionaries take care of doing laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning their apartments, getting haircuts, emailing and other personal activities. In addition, they may engage in extra-curricular activities such as hiking. President Robinson has always loved hiking with his children and friends. Here in Arizona, there are plenty of hiking trails to enjoy. One favorite hiking experience around here, is hiking Camelback mountain. Whenever he can, President enjoys hiking with the missionaries. Often times there are great missionary related opportunities as they encounter a wide variety of people hiking along these trails. As you can see in these pictures, the missionaries wear their badges even when hiking!
As mentioned before, we hold zone conferences every 6 weeks. We have 8 zones in the Arizona Scottsdale mission. There are five ‘Valley’ zones which consist of Scottsdale, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Mesa and Payson. The three zones located up in the mountains consist of Show Low, Snowflake, Taylor, St. Johns, Pinetop/Lakeside and Eager. The valley zone conference pictures were posted previously. Here is the picture of the combined mountain zones at Zone Conference held two weeks ago. The subsequent pictures show what these zone conferences look like. The zone conferences are presided over by President Robinson. We all gather “prepared to learn”, and then we “interact to edify”, concluding with “invitations to act”. Zone and sister training leaders, assistants, and Pres. & Sis. Robinson lead various discussions on topics related to fulfilling our missionary purpose. We seek to learn by asking inspired questions and then practice to improve our skills through role play and small group discussions. We conclude each zone conference with a few testimonies followed by a delicious meal prepared by stake R.S. sisters. We are so grateful for these R.S. sisters to take time out of their busy days to feed our missionaries. They are wonderful and spoil these missionaries. We in turn always show our appreciation by singing to them.
We have received instruction from the Brethren to hold zone conferences every 6 weeks instead of every 12 weeks. So we will have the privilege of meeting together with these wonderful missionaries to discuss and be taught how to improve our teaching skills and inviting the Spirit to be with us. Our motto is, come prepared to learn(read the assigned pre-reads), interact to edify, invite to act. These zone conferences are always filled with wonderful discussions, role playing, and testimonies borne and strengthened. We love these servants of the Lord.
We welcomed Bro. Gonzalez and Bro. Cates from the Church Missionary Dept on Feb. 24, 2017. We held a special MLC which included all zone leaders, district leaders and sister training leaders as well as the assistants. We spent all day Friday receiving superb instruction on how we can become better and more skilled missionaries. The training was excellent and we enjoyed a wonderful lunch as well. Thank you to Bro. Gonzalez and Bro. Cates for their presentations and thoughtful comments on how to become better instruments in the Lord’s hands.
