The Arizona Scottsdale Mission said farewell to 16 of its finest Elders and Sisters during a farewell dinner on Sunday, September 27 (technically, only 11 left within the next 48 hours – 5 extended and are leaving over the next 4 weeks). Fall has arrived in the Mission – so the Elders and Sisters gathered in the back of the Mission Home for one last group picture before dinner. It took several takes to get most of the departing missionaries to get into a non photo bombing mode – though in the final picture at least a couple couldn’t resist posing. Elders (sigh)!
Dinner was Cafe Rio (their favorite!) of sweet pork and chicken with all the trimmings. Dessert was a chocolate chip cookie tort with ice cream – or chocolate Texas sheet cake with ice cream. The missionaries were joined by the office staff, Elder and Sister Allen, Sister Bass – and the cooks Elder and Sister Shaffer.
The group spent some time socializing before convening in the family room of the mission home for a Q&A session with President and Sister Sweeney – where each departing missionary described where they would be in 5 years – followed by a testimony meeting. This is a group with testimonies firm in the gospel!
The next morning, 5:30 am departure from the Mission Home – they left for the airport and then home. Several of this group live in the midwest and even east coast. We look forward to seeing them again as they travels bring them – like homing pigeons – back to the mission and the converts they love.
