Well, its the end of the transfer, and you know what that means, Its time for zone T-shirts. Paradise Valley zone had a pretty good idea. Above is a picture of Sister Sweeney holding the design. Elder Ronnenberg was trying to figure out who the good looking couple on the front was. Can you guess?
President Sweeney got help from a few missionaries to get his daily workout routine available for all the Scottsdale missionaries. We’re very excited for this to become a tool our missionaries can use to guide their exercise and pleased with how it turned out. Many thanks to Elder Faughnan and Hermana Pass for being our models and for the hard work of everyone involved. Each companionship will receive a copy of the workout flip book this upcoming transfer. Here are a few selections of photos from the making of as well as the final product.Making-of photos taken by Elder Kirk
This has been an interesting week for Scottsdale Mission. Some missionaries have been working hard to spread The Gospel in new and exciting ways! Including telling the story of Joseph Smith through Sign Language. We hope to see the video out in the next couple weeks!Photos taken by Elder Kirk, Elder Vete, and Elder Sessions
Six weeks have passed since the Worldwide Leadership Training on The Work of Salvation. The wave of Elders and Sisters wanting to serve continues to grow. Here in the Phoenix metro area, we’ve gone from 3 missions of 150 missionaries (450 total) to 5 missions of between 200 – 250 missionaries (1250 total missionaries)!
It is a wonder to me to see our members respond to the Prophet’s request: “Now is the time for members and missionaries to work together.” Never before have I seen members and missionaries working together so closely. In most of our wards and branches, referrals have increased sharply. Missionaries are looking up less active brothers and sisters and bringing them back into activity. There are no lines that divide us – our mission is the same – to invite all to come unto Christ and receive the ordinances of exaltation.
The Church produced a short video which explains things better than I can. Here it is. It’s only 5 minutes and it says so much. As you watch, think of the missionaries in your neighborhood. Isn’t it time to step forward and help them in the exact same way you want the members here to help your missionary?
As leaders, members, and missionaries, we are one in the work of salvation. Working together, we will find great power to bring others into the Church, to strengthen new members, and to rescue the lost.
OK, it’s been busy! So busy we’re behind in our posts – including the arrival of 29 wonderful Elders and Sisters! Sister Sweeney and President Sweeney joined our office staff, Elder Williams and Elder McConkie and our Assistants, Elder Ronnenberg and Elder Fullmer in picking up our Elders and Sisters at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix on July 22nd. It took two 11 passenger vans, our mission pickup and trailer and two more sedans to fit the luggage and the missionaries for a ride to the Mesa Temple where this picture was taken. The Visitors Center at the Mesa Temple is a wonderful place to visit – and we took the same tour that investigators take when they accompany their missionaries on tour.
This stop was followed by a trip back to the mission home where the new missionaries squared away their paperwork, bought bicycles and helmets for future use, stocked up on supplies and then paired up with experienced missionaries to go out for the evening. All of them had their first in-field missionary experience that evening – most of them participating in lessons or finding.
The next day was the mission transfer meeting. All 29 new Elders and Sisters met their trainer – which we consider the highest responsibility in the mission! It was “just like in the movies” with Elders greeting their new companion usually with a bear hug that lifted one or the other off the ground. The Sisters were just as enthusiastic – but not as athletic in their delivery!
We are so impressed with these Elders and Sisters!
