Our MTC experience – all 5 days of it – is drawing to a close. Tomorrow, we hear from several more Apostles and other General Authorities – capping instruction from Pres. Monson on Sunday, Pres. Eyring on Monday, Pres. Uchtdorf today. Some may wonder why the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve devote so much time to training new mission presidents and wives. The answer is best explained with this latter-day scripture: “And again, I say unto you, that whosoever ye shall send in my name, by the voice of your brethren, the Twelve, duly recommended and authorized by you, shall have power to open the door of my kindgom unto any nation whithersoever ye shall send them… ” (DC 112: 21)
Both Mission Presidents and their companions as well as every missionary that labors with them, are fulfilling the commission of the Savior to the Twelve “go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 27:19)
The highlight of our stay was Sunday evening where a congregation of 15,000, made up mostly of missionaries currently at the MTC, gathered at the Marriott Center to listen to President Monson, Elder Holland, Elder Nelson, Elder Andersen and other General Authorities of the Church present a Worldwide Leadership Training for Priesthood Leaders.
It was thrilling to hear the fervor in the voices of the Elders and Sisters as they sang! But just as thrilling was the message: simply put, we have plateaued as a Church long enough in our convert and retention efforts, it is time to rise to our potential, working as one united body of members and missionaries. With the increasing number of Elders and Sisters serving who have exercised their faith in fulfilling prophecy that the Lord will hasten his work in its time, it is now time for us, the members of the Church, to let our love of our fellow man overcome our fears to share the precious truths we have.
It is my testimony that faith of the missionaries will be met by faith of the members and miracles will occur in the growth of the Kingdom! If you are a future Arizona Scottsdale missionary or parent of an Arizona Scottsdale missionary, please listen to the training found here:
Once you’ve listened, we invite you to counsel with the Lord, then act. Now is the time.
